minimal scandinavian christmas tree decorations

as christmas is only a few days away this is officially the last of my festive DIY's!

these minimal wooden trees are perfect for a modern home. the inspiration came from a novelty cardboard christmas tree i picked up in ikea, it was bright green and made everyone laugh but i liked the simplicity of slotting pieces together to create a basic tree shape. (plus you can fold the pieces flat to store away for next year, perfect for people who don't have much storage space.)

you can find the tutorial over on ehow right now, hope you try them!

have a wonderful christmas, back soon

easy scandi christmas decorations

ok so you might have your wreath up already but i figured i'd share this one just in case! i adore the look of natural xmas decorations, nothing beats a fresh hanging wreath. i'm obsessed with eucalyptus, not only does it smell amazing but it lasts for ages. (even when it dries out it still looks great so it's perfect for this DIY.)

if you've never made your own wreath i'll show you just how easy it is...

materials:

fresh foliage

how to make a christmas wreath

1. take a branch of eucalyptus and place it onto the wreath ring.

2. for the first few branches use florist wire to secure the ends of each branch to the ring.

3. continue to add branches of eucalyptus to develop the shape, i tend to work on covering the outside of the ring first. gently weave the branches between the metal spokes.

4. as the wreath becomes fuller you'll feel it's more stable as the branches naturally weave into each other. continue adding foliage until you're happy. (i had some rose hip that i trimmed and pushed into mine for a little contrast.)

whilst I was in amsterdam I wanted to pick up a few things for our house. lately I've adopted a pretty strict approach to buying as I'm trying to keep everything as minimal as possible. I'm slowly phasing out accessories we bought when we first moved in that don't fit in with our aesthetic anymore.

with that in mind I only had a few places I wanted to check out, as usual h&m home was top of my list. their scandi homewares are really affordable and I often fill up my suitcase with them as I don't have a store near me at home! this time I only found a few small items including the gold geometric trinket box and a few glass vases for my cuttings, I did see some larger items that I ordered online when I got home that should be arriving this week!

the other shop I wanted to pop into was & other stories. at £17 their candles are my favourite mid price scented candles to buy- often I find candles smell great until they're lit and then they don't give off much scent. & other stories candles look divine and you can smell them as soon as you walk into a room (especially their 2eme arrondissement candle!

last but not least my one of my favourite design brands- hay. as we only had hand luggage I could only bring home this concrete plant pot but I've got a few purchases up my sleeve in the coming months. from stationery to furniture there's probably something you'll want to buy if you've not seen their ranges before (they recently teamed up for a collaboration with cos stores... seriously dreamy, check it out here.)

have you got a favourite homeware shop?

when I was in sweeden I spent a lot of time dragging james round their interior shops. there was one item that didn't make it home with me a brass pineapple from grandpa shop. at roughly £80 I thought it was a little expensive but I still regretted not buying it...

then I found an nearly identical one for £25 last week WINNER!

our garden is finally finished do my decorating focus has gone back indoors! our front room is technically our dining room but as I predicted we haven't used our dining table more than a handful of times in the year and a half we've lived here (yes I'm 100% guilty of eating my dinner on the sofa...)

you know when you get something new and can't wait to tell everyone about it? yep that pretty much sums up this post. I had a few new home additions this week and well if I'm honest I was itching to share them!
