I have to hold up my hands and admit to being the ultimate geek when it comes to succulents, I just think they're so darn beautiful!
so when I saw a tray of succulent babies in homebase a week ago I knew it was a sign that I had to make that terrarium I've been planning for so long. it's incredibly simple to do and they're such low maintenance rascals that even my special ability to kill plants is challenged..
you need a few basic things to put together a terrarium:
a selection of succulents/cacti (try garden centres/ikea/eBay)
a glass bowl
cacti/succulent compost (available in most garden centres)
gravel
sand
crushed charcoal (this is harder to find but is only there to minimise odour so is optional)
take your glass bowl and start to layer up the ingredients! the gravel base layer helps the plants with drainage, top with a layer of charcoal followed by a layer of sand (remember to keep the layers neat and even as it'll look nicer in the glass bowl!)
next is the succulent compost, I added a few inches in total (it depends on the size of your plants) remove the succulents from their pots and massage the roots to loosen up the root ball before you pot them into the compost.
I added a layer of gravel to the top to neaten it all but you can also add a layer of moss too.
water them verrrry lightly, you should aim to keep the terrarium only slightly damp. it shouldn't really be bone dry either but don't get carried away as too much water will make them rot! I might invest in a water sprayer to mist them as the succulents in my bathroom seem to love the humid moist environment and I rarely ever water them!
I love my DIY terrarium so much!
I have a few baby succulents left over so I'm going to find some other ways of potting them.. maybe in some of my old china tea cups?
do you like?

I've always wrap my presents the same way, coloured tissue paper followed by brown paper and string. I've wrapped them this way for years (apart from the time I used kitchen foil which didn't go down so well....) I guess I'm a creature of habit and it's become a bit of a tradition! I thought I'd show you some of the gifts I've wrapped this year in case you needed some last minute ideas..
I had some instagram pictures printed and I've used them instead of gift tags (I just attach them using mini bulldog clips) I used images that relate to each person- whether it's a snap of them or an image from a day we've spent together to make it more personal.
bunting decorations are really easy and fun! take a strip of washi tape, fold it over the string and cut off the edges into a triangle shape. if you don't have any washi tape you can use patterned paper and double sided tape.
sometimes I just decorate the gift tags! I cut out plain brown card rectangles, punch a hole in them and use a rubber stamp letter kit and some stickers to create a cute and simple decoration.
paper doily decorations are another favourite of mine. simply glue on the paper doily and use some lace or trimmings to make a simple bow, pretty and feminine.
my favourite decoration this year is my googly eyes.. my inner child had hours of fun with these bad boys.
I've officially reached christmas factor high alert... TWO MORE SLEEPS!!

cocoon check print dress: c/o front row shop
pork pie hat: topshop
double cuff: topshop
pyramid ring: urban outfitters
gold double chain ring: laura gravestock
vintage cocktail ring: c/o rock 'n' rose
perspex bag: klear klutch
obsessed.
yep that pretty much sums up my feeling towards my new dress. it's quite unlike anything else I own and is my favourite a/w piece so far. it also has the addition of pockets (always dear to my heart) and I love how understated it feels.
the dress is from front row shop who have quite the selection of quirky clothing, I'm already building up quite a hefty wishlist! I'm really loving unusual cuts and details and their clothing has a wonderful scandinavian feel to it, big fan.
I've been rummaging through my accessories and one thing I will be investing in this month is a few more vintage style rings, I really don't have enough choice in my current stash so if you have any jewellery shop recommendations please let me know! today I'm sporting some of my all time favourites to tide me over including my laura gravestock ring which never fails to perk up my paws.
today I'm in reykjavik with the boy; we've escaped to celebrate his 30th birthday yipeeee!! if you want to keep up to date you can pop over to my instagram for out latest adventures here
hope you're all having a good week.. look forward to catching up when I get home!

topi tea dress: motel
fedora: topshop
selena bag: la moda
martie shoes: topshop
chunky silver band: kukee
some brands are just damn dangerous for my bank balance!
motel is one of those websites I go out of my way to avoid browsing due to the sheer amount of temptation on offer, I am however fatally weak (I guess some things are just too pretty to avoid goddamn it)
I finally ordered this dress after a few days of ummming and ahhhing and I'm so glad I did; it's the perfect little summer dress and really comfortable to wear (now I just have to resist the other three dresses I spotted...)
I also picked up this oversized selena bag from la moda which was a steal at £16 and could quite literally carry a small rhino (ok I exaggerate a little but it's amazingly roomy) I loved the padlock and tassel detail and I wanted a big white summer bag for holiday so it ticked all the boxes. they have some beauties in stock the minute and I'm seriously tempted to go back for another style as they're so darn affordable.
I best get off my laptop, the boy has been on a 100 mile bike ride today and is expecting a slap up meal, god help him (the contents of my fridge include butter, chocolate and a suspicious looking packet of ham... send help!)
back soon
