for me christmas nail art means one thing.. GLITTER! even though glitter polish tends to be one of my main festive regrets (takes. so. long. to. get. off.) I still can't help myself and every year I go OTT for party nails.
I really wanted to do a classic gold glitter mani.. but with a twist. I wanted something cute but also funky for my festive nights out so I've added a little extra detail to turn things up a notch! This isn't too tricky so I've made a tutorial for you to recreate it yourself.
materials:
gold glitter polish
white, blue and black nail art pens (or polish and a fine brush)
dotting tools
first off draw the outline of the white eye (it's like a reverse french manicure) this will give you a guide for where to avoid painting the glitter.
start building up the layers of glitter polish until you get an even coverage. you can also shake on loose glitter to the wet polish if you want a super chunky finish. when the last glitter coat is finished use a brush and white polish to outline the white again.
next you want to build up the eye. use a dotting tool to dab on a blue circle and leave to dry whilst you get the next colour ready.
the next step is adding a black circle for the pupil. this circle needs to be smaller so you can still see the blue edges.
to finish the eye add a tiny fleck of white using a small dotting tool or brush to add a highlight to the pupil. last but not least add a good slick of top coat to seal the deal.

I never fail to get excited by the latest batch of models own polishes.. their colours are super snazzy and they're always coming up with fun new finishes and textures.
I've got my mitts on some of their newbies and these metallic and glitter gels are the perfect polishes for the upcoming party season.
so I decided to throw a little giveaway, huzzah! it's been a while since my last one right? I figured these would be a cool gift for one of you- a little thank you for sticking around, you guys rock.
first up we have the glitter gel polishes- these are a twist on their hyper gel ranges. with the glitter gels you get the nice raised finish of a gel mani but way better (cause it glitter.)
my favourite shades are the gold tone sheer sparkle and the crystal pink with it's teeny flecks of glitter for the ultimate princess finish!
and then we have my faves.. the colour chrome liquid metal effect polishes. you may remember I reviewed some shades before here. well I have a new batch here and the copper and pearl shades look pretty darn dreamy...

if you're anything like me you may be partial to pimping out your nails with a little bit of glitter!
glitter polishes remain my nemesis when it comes to removal ! this type of glitter mani however is a zillion times easier to take off than a full glitter varnish.. hurrah!
I have quite a few glitter top coats but sometimes I like to create my own. I was recently introduced to a new type of glitter called 'flitter' when I was sent some assorted glittler pots by viva la nails (their website is a must see for nail art supplies!)
flitter isnt in many top coats on the market and it's gorgous!! that was all the inspiration I needed to whip up a new glitter combination for my nails!
the glitters I tried were brilliant! I've used standard glitters before but these are much better due to the assorted sizes and textures! I used a combination of shapes and types on my nails including:
flitter (glitter strips)
neon glitter (really vibrant and a mixture of sizes)
I think this manicure works best with an assortment of types, you can put the glitter into a bottle of clear polish and make a bottle of glitter topcoat but you'll probably find the glitter will begin to discolour and bleed into the varnish!
I think it's best to apply the glitter straight to wet nails and seal it afterwards! here's how I did mine:

oooooooo I love a new nail art trend.
this one has me a teeny bit excited.
embellished nails... think sequins, glitter, rhinestones and all things barbie-esque! apparently this is going to be big this season... I'm sooo in! (didn't take much convincing)
remember caviar nails? then velvet nails? well now there's sequin nails too!
I decided to do my own embellished mani, I just did the tips here but when christmas approaches I'll be covering the entire nail!
it's such a gorgeous manicure, perfect for the festive season and my new favourite nail technique. the pictures really don't show how much they catch the light and sparkle!
it's not hard to do, you'll want to gather an assortment of jewels, I've used a mix of coloured rhinestones, discs, shell pieces and swarovski crystals. (you want a mix of shapes and textures for the best effect!)
paint a base coat of your choice, I've used essie fiji on mine.
once dry simply dot on clear varnish and stick on your jewels! hold them down to secure (you can use an orange stick or tweezers to help you place them) finish off with several clear topcoats and get flaunting!
it's a semi high maintenance manicure just because it can be quite easy to chip off the rhinestones (especially on a night out!) however it's such a show stopper mani I think it's worth the risk!

here's a round up of my latest nail art efforts! the glitter nails are really easy, brush on a clear base/top coat and sprinkle on fine glitter. I got mine from a craft shop, they sell them in all colours and sizes for craft projects and are pretty cheap to buy. just repeat the clear polish and glitter layers until you're happy with the result. I graduated mine but you can cover the whole nail if you like!

these gold edged nails are really cute, I just painted on models own top turquoise as a base and once it had dried used models own gold digger to accentuate. to get the sharp line just mark off the area with some sellotape, it keeps the edges between the two colours nice and neat!

these are my favourite nails I'm still wearing them today. I used two coats of OPI white polish as a base, once that had dried I brushed on a coat of clear polish and stuck on assorted jewels whilst the clear polish was still wet (just do one finger at a time!) I used several glitters, shiny disks and clear diamante, use an orange stick or tweezers to help stick them on.
you can get these stick on jewel decorations in general nail art kits and just mix and match them on your nails. use plenty of clear top coat to finish and they should last a while! uber pretty and they really sparkle on a night out...

it's pretty obvious I like to paint my nails. lately I've been going through a glitter phase and here's my latest manicure obsession..disco nails! all you need is clear polish and glitter; simple.
I brought tubes of glitter in assorted colours for this look but you can use whatever colour takes your fancy. first I painted my nails in a block colour, I chose a deep navy blue. apply a coat of clear polish (one nail at a time) and whilst wet gently shake on tiny amounts of glitter alternating between colours. finish with a few coats of clear top coat to set the nails.
your all done!
