DIY painted chopping boards

one of my favourite things about christmas is people coming together over food. whether it's a celebratory dinner or a simple catch up with friends, nibbles and a few drinks- the more the merrier for me!

I love to have platters of food scattered about for people to  help themselves (big fan of a cheese board over here.) I like to keep things informal so you won't catch me doing sit down dinner parties that often. I tend to use boards to serve food on- there's the big ugly chopping boards (kept hidden in the cupboards) that we use for prep and then there's the smaller cute ones that I use as serving platters for cheeses and snacks.

I wanted to give some of my serving boards a little spruce up in time for our festive parties. these painted boards are a really simple update that takes no time at all!

grab some tape and wrap it around the end of your serving board to mark off the section to be painted.

I've only chosen to paint the handle end of the boards as my paint is toxin free but that doesn't necessarily mean it's food safe. I won't be putting food onto the paint and it's easy to wash/wipe the wooden area after use if you're being super cautious. you can buy food safe paint but it's difficult to track down here in the uk- I recommend getting sample sizes, it will cost a lot less!

paint the ends in whatever bright shades you want, I've gone for pastel colours which I though looked good against the warm wood. I've used a spray varnish to seal the painted section. when it's all dry remove the tape to reveal a nice clean edge.

I'm really pleased with how they turned out- they add a nice pop of colour to my table. now I just need someone to bring me some more cheese cause I accidentally ate it all... dang.

back soon!
