DIY wood notebook

wood effect notebook DIY

i have such an easy DIY for you today!

i love stationery (in fact i'm slightly addicted to buying notebooks- send help!) as i spent most of january writing lists i figured i'd jazz up some of my notebooks to keep my new year resolution of being organised alive and kickin'.
if you have oodles of notebooks laying around this is a really fun project, plus it looks like real wood which is pretty neat.

how to make a wood effect book

the secret to the wood effect is self adhesive vinyl- i bought a roll last year and never got around to using it. turns out it's perfect for covering books!

materials:

ruler and craft knife

open your notebook and lay it onto the back of the vinyl sheet -keep in mind which way you want the grain to run and lay your book accordingly. cut out a rectangle of vinyl roughly 1" larger than the notebook. (you'll be tucking this excess vinyl inside.)

take a knife/scissors and trim the edges diagonally. also trim a v shape around the spine of the book as shown above.

remove the self adhesive backing and line up your book on the sticky vinyl. push out any air bubbles and tuck the flaps inside.

for a neater finish inside cut another rectangle of vinyl slightly smaller than the inside front cover- place inside so the wood effect shows both inside and out.

press the edges to make sure you have a nice clean finish- all done!
